Leaking Volvo S80?

I think my Volvo S80 is leaking at the rear, in the middle, about where the axle is.

Where I normally park at home, there are oily marks under the rear of the car; I went shopping today and came back to a patch underneath the rear in the car park. I may just be being paranoid as it's entirely possible that neither patch was made by my car but I want to be certain.

I thought pretty much everything on the S80 was bolted to the front end and I can't think of anything on the rear that could leak?! Is there anything I can check myself? It's a Volvo S80 D5 geartronic - the facelift model on a 56 plate.

I don't think so. It's slightly oily and there's a definite stain underneath where the car is normally parked.

Might sound daft but have a sniff see what it smells of?

Girlfriends daewoo had a leak from a similar place and it was leaking fuel melting underseal so making a black stain.

Is it four wheel drive? Diff leak possible if so...

Fuel leak, diesel will leave an oily/greasy stain.

Fuel is about the only thing it could be, unless it's something else dripping at the front/middle, and running along the plastic trays to the back.

Weeping diff is another possibility but I'd imagine it would be empty by now if it was leaking badly.

Cheers everyone. I was filling up with fuel yesterday & it dawned on me the fuel tank was at the rear. Turns out my fuel filter wasn't fitted properly at the last service so it's all sorted now
