I need to spray my van and have bought the 2k paint to do it. I thought the expenditure would stop at that!

I was going to use a charcoal filter mask but having read all the horror stories of people suffocating to death have decided that an air fed mask is the way to go.

However, by the time I've bought a big compressor, hose, mask, regulator/filter, water trap and coalescer filter I'll be getting on for £1k out of pocket.

I've found this online. Basically it's a complete air fed system which works at low pressure and high volume. I can only find it in the US. Has anyone seen anything like it here? Anyone used one?

What do you reckon?

You can get normal face masks that are iso safe, have approx a 40 hr working life, plenty of time to paint your vehicle.

Search the make "gerson"

Yeah, lots of people use those masks and at £15 a pop they are good. Though they're only really meant for mixing and generally being around isocyanates rather than spraying. I don't condemn anyone using one though.

To my way of thinking air fed systems are the way forward, they leave you to concentrate on your work rather than worrying about choking to death! At roughly £400 an air fed full face mask makes sense to me. Just wondered if anyone on here had used one.

The ones in the link don't appear to be on sale in the UK. Maybe due to some H&S thing? Ironic if it's forcing DIYers to go the less safe filter mask route, especially with cellulose being fazed out. scratchchin

I do everyday, have done for yrs and also the lads in the other 2 vans I run do as well.

Wouldn't have it any other way, not something to mess with.

However,I still say the gerson masks are fine for short term use.

Technically d-i-y-ers aren't supposed to be spraying 2K paints, the paint suppliers are only meant to sell to the trade but there's no one enforcing the regulations.
BTW you don't need an air fed, this is what you want

Thanks for your replies. I think I'm going to go with the filter mask and spray outside. I don't fancy doing it in a garage without an air fed mask and can't really justify the cost of one at the moment. Just done my tax return! Would like one in the future though.

Finish on my van doesn't need to be perfect so i reckon outside should be ok.

I've found an open sided hay barn to do the job. My neighbours have to put up with enough as it is with grinding, welding and lead smelting going on. hehe
