I know my Chim, looked after it well, but could use a few more BHP.

Has anyone bothered with serious (to 4.6/5.2) engine mods on a 4.0 or should I just buy a 5.0?

There are two schools of thought on this:

1. upgrade - ask Steve Heath how expensive a hobby this can be, it's not just a case of improving the engine alone, it's suspension, brakes, cooling systems, clutches, etc, etc. It can be done, but is expensive and if you come to sell it you won't get any of the investment back.

2. Go for a 500, Cerb or tuscan - depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you go for the Chimaera 500, they are rarer than the Griff 500's so you won't have as much choice. Cerbs, you can pick them up for next to nothing for what they are - early P reg 4.2 have been touching £18K for well used examples - similar money to P reg 500's (take your pick). Tuscans, if your budget stretches you should be able to pick one up for about £27-28K.

3. If you've changed to a 500, etc you can always upgrade them if you really need even more power.

Yeah it just drops straight in. You can see how cheap this option is from my profile. I'm surprised more people don't take this route.

Jezus H Christ - How much????? Blimey, I would need a second and third income to pay for that tasty spec. Still, must be nice though....

Unfortunately I can feel myself drawn down this long and dark path. It seems so cheap and reasonable when you start - they once you have gone too far the big £10K bill comes in for the engine upgrade.....

Cheers,

Paul

Trade it in for that 5.0 – you know it makes sense, but not from He who shall not be mentioned ...

Brian, can't fault it absolutely everything I thought it would be ... and lots more besides. Let me know what you think if you see some Afterburners in the flesh (your other thread).

Only problem has been the mirror glass falling off on the driver's side but that took all of ... oooh two minutes to fix! Cost 0p. (had some glue already).
