I was given a set of M520s off a mate at work as he couldn't get on with them.

They never came with cleats, and I did not own cycling shoes so they sat in the garage for a year or so.

Last week, I bought some cheap Muddyfox shoes (cheap at SportsDirect to see if I like using SPDs) and got some cleats on ebay.

Tis morning was my first ride using them and wow, what a difference!

I felt so much more connected to the bike, and was using higher gears on sections of my ride compared to last week.

I cut 5 mins off my first 12 miles, again compared to last week, and my average speed over the same route was 1.3mph faster.

Admittedly, I also removed the full length mudguards and pannier rack last night, and might be a wee bit fitter, but definitely glad I switched over to SPDs.

If you are swithering over doing this, do it!

Oh, and I have not fallen over...yet!

It's a fabulous feeling. I'd ridden a couple of different sets of clips before but switching to SPDs made me feel all-connected, as you have found. It's quite a "lift" really.
