Air filter....
Discussion
My serpentine Griff is fitted with a Pipercross panel air filter. I have just washed this out with Swarfega and it now appears spotless. Before use do I need to oil the foam or does it go back dry? If I need to oil it is there any readily obtainable oil available and what viscosity should it be?
Thanks in advance.

You need to oil it after washing it as it's the light coating of oil which helps trap the dirt.Pipercross sell filter oil and i would expect others do too? Most economical and least messy way i have found to apply it it to 'work' it through the foam by spraying a little on and place it in a plastic bag and gently 'massage' it into the filter.Dont leave it dripping wet as it will clog really quickly.
Removing the airbox and filter is not difficult but is a bit of a knack.
The rim of the airbox is trapped under a clamp bar on the N/S and a much smaller clamp on the O/S.
1)Undo, but do not completely remove O/S clamp.
2)Providing N/S clamp bar was not done up too tightly, slide airbox to the O/S out of the air hose.
3)Revolve airbox slightly and lift the hose end out first.
4)Remove element from recess in bodywork.
5)Wash element in Swarfega or washing up liquid (best to do this while the wifes out as it makes a hell of a mess in the sink), dry and re-oil.
On my car I had to undo the fan cable connectors to get the wiring out of the way.

N/S large clamp

O/S small clamp.

Airbox and filter.
I got my oil from www.modelsportuk.co.uk
Hope this helps.

i am a little surprised and confused... (does not take much)your air filter cover is bolted into place? my V reg is just held roughly in place by the inside of the nose and the 2 little prongs from the TVR badge, not seen any holes though for the bolts / clamps... was not impressed when i came to change the filter in the first place with this!
so will now look into somehting a bit more secure! have you got any more photos as it looks like a clamp on one side by the outlet to the hose and staright bolt through on the other?

Unfortunately due to the very tight space these are the best pics i could take.
The clamp by the air hose is a piece of aluminium which is bolted through the bodywork with two bolts and laps over the flange of the airbox. The O/S as you can see is a small aluminium angle bracket bolted through the bodywork the same as the other side but with one bolt. This arrangement holds the airbox firmly down onto the element beneath. When refitting the airbox you slide it across towards the N/S so that the flange goes under the clamp (that's why the clamp shouldn't be done up too tight in the first place), and then you tighten the O/S down fully to stop it moving.

When we've had one going/gone the car overfuels and chucks black crap over the back end which is easy to see on a lighter car, maybe not so on a dark colour. Eddie - yours will be fine as the crap shows up well on mine. Simples on Andreas being white/yellow.
Not sure what happens when something else goes wrong, like oil through it.

Thanks Paul. No crap on mine yet (Our Starmist Ocean Hazes)apart from, on following Ch..... Enough said. I will try and photo the Cerebra safety belt holder for you on Sunday. 81 booked TVRs turning up at Duxford. Attended by Rolls, Lotus, Nissan, BMW etc. Hope there will be a fly past by Merlin Spits and Mustangs.
