John Greenwoods "69 Stars And Stripes " Le-Mans Stingray.
Discussion
Any one else noticed what must be the Most Famous Stingray Racer of all is going through Auction soon in the States. ? Its reckoned that it will make Big Money. One of this Months "Comics" has a small write up.
John Greenwood was a Talented Racer and ran a Corvette Shop in the States. He built This "Stars And Stripes" Stingray to Win at Le Mans ( 73 ? i think ? ) . Financed personally by Greenwood, who was allways cash strapped and under immense personal pressure, it was a valiant effort. The French crowds loved the car.
The "427 Big Block" Powered Monster was clocked at 215 Mph on The Mulsane , a phenomenal speed. Far faster than the Porshes and Daytona Ferraris.
Unfortuneately, Factory Backing and Light weight meant the Porshes were quicker Overall and the Corvettes Big Block Motors crank ( allways the weak link in these Engines , due to its weight ) expired during the night.
I had a Lovely 69 4 Speed T-Top Stingray from 91-95. How i wish i had never sold it to that Essex Horse Trader who "Apparently" sold it to a Dealer in France in 1995. ( He still wont tell me who !!! ).
Be interesting to see what Greenwoods car fetches.
