Back pain upon waking
Discussion
Has anybody else ever had this, and if so any ideas how to fix it, what might have caused it.
Despite any obvious source of injury, lifestyle change etc, about 2 weeks ago I found when waking in the morning I had quite a sore middle back. This has progressively got worse and now wakes me up in the night. It tends to ease off through the day and goes worse during the night ?!?

How long have you got for my 'sore back on waking up' stories?
I get about one full night's sleep in a hundred. Soreness is whole middle section of back. Got hip flexors relaxed in a massage and that flattened my back out for one blissful night but it was back to usual the next night. Suspect your and my problem is bed-related. Stuck with our horrid Tempura-style superking mattress until we can find suitable sprung single mattresses that will fit up our rickety old staircase.

Is it one of those memory foam mattress type things?
I had to spend two weeks at a friends house earlier this year when I was house sitting, who'd just bought one of them, massive lower back ache for the first 12 days...only the last 2 nights were acceptable.
I think even a sofa would have been more comfortable than that bed.

Try this simple excercise.
Lie on your side, on the carpet facing the wall to the right, then SLOWLY roll over to face the left hand wall, WITHOUT using your hands or elbows for help.
Keep repeating this for around three minutes, going from left to right.
Do first thing in the morning and last thing at night before you go to bed.
Also if the pain is really bad at night a soft neoprene wide back support may help.
