bass guitars - help!
Discussion
Hi all, i used to own a bass, an aria pro 2 but this was a good 15 years ago and fancy getting a new bass. I'll be a total beginner and plan to play indie and a bit of metal.
Any recommendations for a bass and amp package? Would 200 quid get me anything? Any makes to go for? What should i look for?
Thanks

I'm in a similar situation albeit over 20 years since I last played...badly
Currently looking at a Washburn T24 (£260 ish 'new').
...might be worth a look as it's not wildly outside your budget. I'd also be interested in what others think of this guitar, it does seem to get pretty good reviews in general.

Bought & sold a few from here, including my current stingray.
Theres also a section of amps etc for sale & some great advice in the forums.

Yes, I use Basschat. The forums aren't as good as they were but the For Sale forum is generally good. Just bought a new bass from there today and sold one yesterday, as it happens. Bought & sold a few from here, including my current stingray.

I've got a dirt cheap Yamaha which was set-up by a local bass playing luthier.
It's limited with regards to sounds with only one split pick-up but I'm yet to play a nicer bass.
I've had friends with guitars costing four figures that still prefer the way mine plays.
Yamahas tend to be quite consistently made, but generally you can find a huge variation between one guitar and the next so if you're massively out of practice get someone who knows what they're looking at to go shopping with you.
