Mercedes SLS AMG

Had the pleasure of hearing and sitting in one of these at my local village show over the weekend. Mercedes had a stand with the usual display of cars, and a horrible matt black wrapped E class. Hidden in the middle of the pack though was one of these beasts.
I got talking to one of the very friendly chaps on the stand and asked if I could hear if fired up. He disappeared for a few moments then came back with the keys. The next 5 minutes, as he fired it up and revved it slightly, were heaven to my ears. I've never heard such an engine on a road car (which hasn't been in a Ferrari or Lambo etc). The popping and crackling were brilliant.
I now know what I would be buying if I won the lottery. That 6.2 litre V8 sounds absolutely awesome! What was funny was how the zombies emerged when the beast was unchained. One moment there was me and the chap on the stand, then five minutes later about 30 people were around the car.
There's only one thing stopping me from getting that car now. The simple problem of £159,000. I think I need to work harder.
I do fancy a V8 at some point though.

Yes. New list price is around £180,000, apparently. This one was used and had a few thousand miles on the clock. It belonged to one of the dealership directors and it had the B&O audio upgrade in etc. Was a fine example. Thought they were more than that actually...
There is something about the SLS.
I'm sure there are much better cars for the money, it's bloody huge for a two seater and there's something very awkward about the car from the C-pillar back, BUT it's the only modern Merc that's done anything for me for decades and there's something majestic about it, see one finished 3rd in the Spa 24 Hours, so it's obviously a much better car than the McLaren (Although not as good as and Audi R8 or a BMW Z4!)
