Upgrading for Panther to Snow Leopard

About to buy a second hand 15" PowerBook G4, it's currently got Panther 10.3.9.

Is it possible to upgrade straight to Snow Leopard, or indeed run the software at all?

If I may add a question here?
I am on Tiger with a G4 and wanted to go to Leopard, cannot do Snow Leopard but I found it a bit hard getting a new copy of Leopard on its own and the prices I have seen are make it not worth it for me. Am I right in guessing Snow Leopard is an update to Leopard hence the cost?

Snow Leopard will only run on an Intel powered mac, not a G4, but you can run Leopard, just be sure to max out the ram.

Snow Leopard looks the same as Leopard, but behind the scenes gets rid of support for power pc chips. Basically Leopard came out when Apple weer moving from Power PC to intel chips and is designed to work with both, hence it got a bit cumbersome. Snow Leopard does away with Power Pc support.

getting legit copies of Leopard is not easy, but plenty of other copies out there.
