Unusual learner cars

I don't think this has been covered on here before, so it will be interesting to hear some of the other ones that are out there

This thread is inspired by what I saw on my travels today - a BMW E60 520d M Sport, with a "Focus driving school" thing stuck on the roof! Sure enough, there was someone in it having a driving lesson.

Besides that, I have seen an E90 318d, and a 1 series coupe, but nothing quite like the E60 I saw today.

There is a Astra (I think) VXR just down the road from me.

I also saw a 135i which was a driving instructors car.

I don't quite believe that this would be the day to day instruction car. Perhaps another car within his houshold/possession that had to be temporarily used whilst the regular car (possible a Ford Focus?) is in for unexpected repairs, clutch, crashed etc...

I am not sure, the E90 that I saw was from the same driving school and I saw that one a lot, so it is possible that this is the day to day car.

I wonder what his insurance is like letting learners drive that!

Surely not as you wouldn't have dual control fitted to all the cars you own within your family just in case.

Judging by how much the AA charge instructors to lease a car which they aren't even allowed to chose you could well be better off being a self employed instructor and leasing whatever you dam well want.

Driving school near me has taken to using black Alfa Romeo Mito's recently, and i saw one independant instructor using a BMW 1 Series.

First ever time I saw this was a resale silver bmw 3 series many moons ago.. All my mates wanted to go there for lessons, even though he charged 10 quid an hour over someone with a normal instructor car.

I'd imagine their insurance on the cars wouldnt change much from car to car, because no matter what the car is, its still got dual controls hasnt it?

It was real, she has passed now. I often see her about Fulham.

1 series around here, would be good. A friend learned in a Capri 1.6 laser and done his test in it..

tbh i cant remember, but i cant honestly believe tht someone learnt to drive in a Hummer! the test must have been fun!

There's an instructor round here with a bright orange Focus ST. I wouldn't have let me in a car like that when I first started learning, so hats off to the man for bravery.
