Hows your secret crop of sloes doing ? The Irish BlackThorns seemed to have liked the hard winter and are collapsing under the weight of the sloes

Excellent crop of Sloes coming along here also. The Hazelnuts are in good supply as well.

We shouldn't need to pick any this year as we got so many last year. We currently 1/2 a demijohn of sloe gin maturing and enough sloes in the freezer to make the same again.

The bush in the park near us that yielded fantastically is not looking good. The council trimmed it back so heavily just before flowering I think it's buggered this year. Fingers crossed the bushes at les parents are going well instead this year. That said blackberries near us appear to be in abundance. Luckily living in Clacton - no-one seems to have any idea of their value!

Loads coming out now. Some are purple already.

Did 3 demijohns last year and still have a big bag in the freezer. Will be a good year if there are more than last year.

Chin chin.

Was walking along a country lane recently and there were loads of tiny red/yellow fruits on the ground that looked like cherries but tasted like plums, and the trees looked like hawthorn. Any idea what they were?

i've got 4 of those "mini plum" trees and the crop is falling faster than i can pick it. seriously the sweetest plums i've ever tasted.

If any of you are near pontefract feel free to come and get some as they are making a right mess of the drive.

They are called 'cherry plums'

Make an excellent Cherry plum vodka.
