boxster owners ! not all,you know the type

After spending a weekend with my brother and his chums. One of his pals in particular got my goat going. We all know that people who buy boxsters got one cos they could not afford a 911. Most are honest about it. ' wanted a 911 can't afford one so got a boxster'. Nothing wrong with that. Boxsters are good little sports cars. But they were only made cos there was a gap in the market for people who wanted a 911 but could not afford one. But this w@\ker I was locked in a argument with was actually trying to say the boxster was a more accomplish car. That's why he bought it. And the 911 could never be the sports car the boxster is. Now I'm not a 911 fan but man this guy pi$$ed me of. The only reason people buy boxsters is cos they can't have a 911. So they have the boxster. And that's fine,its a dam good car. Just please don't pass of your reason for getting as its some how better than a 911. So boxster drivers before you launch your spite upon me. Take a min to look what I'm saying.

Boxster is a more accesible "daily" driver.
If it were merely cost they wouldn't sell many as people would just buy a two year old 911 instead of a brand new Boxster and put private plates on it.

I must take issue that those who drive Boxsters aspire to own a 911 but can't afford one. I owned 3 Boxsters before purchasing a 997 C4S; whilst I enjoyed the 997, I traded it in for another Boxster because, in my opinion, the latter is a more enjoyable drive. I have also owned a 996 Turbo - so my 911 experience is not limited to the 997. There are some who can afford a 911, and have owned them, but prefer the Boxster!
Nah mate the boxster is a two seater mid engined sports car. The 911 is a 2+2 rear engined performance car. I don't subscribe to all this can't afford 911 crap. A relatively new boxster S aint cheap. If you were hell bent on getting a 911 then you can get them for 10 grand.

You are missing the point, more expensive and more powerful, does not always equate to more enjoyment, the Boxster does its own thing as does the Cayman, a Cayenne costs more but doesn't provide more pleasure, a 911 is fantastic but it will never be mid engined. Some people don't want 400 bhp, its the same for any car range, I know people with enough money to buy any car they want but they buy the one that suits their needs.
This is the same mentality that means that people who buy Porches, well, men of a certain age get told they are having a mid life crisis, Ill bet the same people like to point out to Carrera owners that they wish it was a Turbo, to Turbo owners that they wish it was a GT2 etc.

I was under the impression that the Boxster was a 'superior' handling car owing to the mid engine set up and associated weight distribution and balance.I remember a test a few years back (in EVO I think) suggesting that a Boxster with the same power as a 911 would probably lap a circuit quicker than a 911. The Boxster has always been intentionally down on power to not step on its big brother's toes.

But I didn't buy a Boxster because I couldn't afford a GT2 - they're different cars altogther. I wanted the best soft top sports car I could find - and for me that's a Boxster.

Not sure why some people think people buy certain cars because they can't afford better.
I know people who are very wealthy yet they drive "normal" cars as they have no interest in cars whatsoever.
I'd say that most of the people that call boxsters a poor mans porsche have never driven one in their life.
The boxster is a very good car.
Infact most generalisations people say with regards to cars are just repeating what they hear, with no direct experience of what they are talking about.....
