What car??

A year ago I bought a 350Z. Terms were the other half could keep her KA for the family car. Since then neither car has proved "fit for purpose". Seems like, more often than not we are having to transport 2+ people. Access in and out of the back of the KA is difficult. Naturally, I would like to break the terms and go back to something like the Mondeo we used to have.

Question: If I had to sell the Z what would you replace it with that could carry 4 people comfortably, had similar performance and handling to the Z and cost less than £15k - or is that totally unreasonable??

Supplemental question: If I could dump the KA, what would you get that had 4 doors, reasonable performance, handling and economy and cost less than £4k?

Replace KA with Focus. Job done.

KA isn't great on fuel and tax is expensive for the performance. 1.6 Focus shouldn't cost much more to run.

Blobeye/Hawkeye STi (if you dont mind the looks). I stick a roof box on mine for holidays, and the boot is plenty for shopping and days out (and I have twins)... I also have a Mondeo, but that's for work, and by the time the weekend comes I can bear getting in it no longer

You could replace the 350Z with an E46 M3. Easily seats 4, 30mpg on a run and £15k will now get you a good one:

Oh, and for the KA question - A Focus... I had one for a while but dumped it for a Mondeo as the seat hurt my back on long runs...

If you dont mind the age of the car then this is great. But 2 doors makes kids getting into and out of car seats ball ache...

I'd shop the Ka in for something bigger as mentioned a Focus would do the job. As for the 350Z I guess it depends how attatched you are to it as you could look to change that rather then the KA but I reckon it makes less sense unless you're bored of it and fancy a change?

The only thing I would say, is when do you enjoy your Z. If you use it for work and have a good route then cool, but if its weekends then you'll find yourself in the 'family car'... Hence why I have a fun family car - makes every trip to the zoo a bit of fun for me too

That's exactly the problem. I love the Zed but hardly get to use it. Hence the ggrrrr feeling when I have to get in the KA

So get an Impreza then. You'll get a peach of a car for that money. The 2005 is better for the modifying route (very strong engine, maps straight to 340bhp), however, the 2006 is a bit more grown up with its larger engine and low down torque. The alternative from the Jap selection is the Evo, however, they are a bit dearer to look after and command a higher price.

Every family trip for me is a gas. Especially when we 'prepare for light speed' at the traffic lights
