About how much should that cost (for a Mk 2)?

What for the whole lot ? (front and back ?)

Does it really need it ? Most people don't seem to bother as its all a bit of a pain in the butt and not really needed.

Well I'm just noticing the back wheels are splayed out a bit causing excess wear to the insides of the tyres and there's a kind of sloppiness in the handling on bumpy roads. Car is R-reg and very original with 72k miles and probably hasn't had any major work done thus far.

You just need to get the alignment sorted properly. Some camber at the rear is quite normal but if the tyres are wearing unevenly the settings are probably out. Don't go for a cheapo "Quick-Fit" front toe only alignment, it needs to be done somewhere that can do front camber, caster & toe and rear camber & toe i.e. somewhere with a 4-wheel laser alignment machine.

Wheels-in-motion in Chesham comes very highly recommended.

I would say that proper 4-wheel Computerised geometry check and alignment is much more precise compared to lazer alignment.

I think the guys at WIM are friendly enough to give you the settings required by the garages.

I kind chap of MX5 nutz emailed me their fast road setup, I give it to the place doing my alignment and bam. Done no probs.
