Not sure if this the right place, but I see a lot of insurance questions so bear with me!

With 4 cars between the wife and myself and each car has had to have a seperate policy taken out to accrue NCB, it was a a potential financial headache looming when the wife announced she'd spotted a car she wanted and wasn't prepared to sell any of her toys - it was looking as though a new policy was going to have to be taken out with zero NCB, a prospect I wasn't looking forward to.

I called a few companies to see if they were prepared to mirror any of our policies NCB and couldn't get any really positive replies - I even had one who suggested that if I had any old renewal letters less than two years old they "would do"...surely not if that bonus was already in use on another policy? Anyway, it wasn't a risk I was happy to take should it all go pear shaped.

Evetually, I spoke to Matthew at Taylor-Henderson Insurance Consultants www.hendersontaylor.co.uk they got the wife a cracking deal earlier this year for her Porsche with Aviva - better in many respects than Aviva direct could give her.
Anyway, I asked for his advice, although the potential purchase my wife was considering couldn't be insured by them, they could get Aviva to release/mirror her current NCB held on her Porsche for use on another car for £100.00.

The net result of this is that instead of paying close to £1k for a zero NCB policy she managed to snag a comp' policy for £186.00 - a big saving!

Must be a few folk on here in similar situations and he may be able to help toosmile

At 5 vehicles, wouldn't you be better off with a multi-car policy with a single insurer?

Is it true that if I have 2 cars, the 2nd car will not have any no claims?

Surely it's the driver and not the car that accrues a no claims bonus?

I've two separate (non classic) policies on my dailies - I used to have mirrored NCB but that didn't workm out so well and I figured that if I had a claim on either it would affect the NCB on both

Not sure what the case would be if I had a claim on one of the two separate policies - I guess it would need to be declared at renewal for either....

The multicar thing was a non starter - with 5 cars routinely insired (3 on classics and 2 dailys) the cost of a multicar was nearly twice what I currently pay if all the cars are insured

Low risk postcode area IP24 3 (unless I'm wrong about that?) one driver/owner - 14 years of claim free history - one SP30 - I always ask to take additional excess till it's around £500 area and do a max of 12,000 miles per year spread accross the the car. Like i've said before insurance is a strange thing - I would have thought I would be a good risk to an insurance company but it appears I'm not.

Incidently I've had buildings and contents insurance on my house and in 26 years have never claimed for anything - hearing some of the stunts other people I know get up too I often wonder who is the mug here!!!

You'd have thought so, but it's not the case. Factor in that all the cars have different dates for renewal, I would be hit heavily for cancellation fee's from my existing insurers in starting all the cars on a multicar policy.

The arrangement that Henderson Taylor has sorted out will NOT affect the NCB that has been mirrored/transfered as would be the case if it was the "mirror" arrangement that can be sometimes be sorted out.

First line is true, though some insurance Co's may give you an introductory bonus for the 2nd car. Some may even mirror the NCB on your first car - but if you have an accident in your second that NCB is likely to be affected on your first.

For the your second line - that would be good if it was the case. Sadly it isn't.

When I renewed mine on a family fleet policy, the cars were added to the policy at the time the old individual polio IRS were up for renewal, thus negating cancellation fees etc. Worked out quite well or me, saved over £k on the 4 cars a tha time.
