mazda xedos 9 2.3 miller supercharged
Discussion
Want a week day barge as sold my Mazda 6 MPS. Used to run a 2.5 V6 about 6 years ago. It had the same engine as in the Probe and MX-6. But never known any one to run one of these. Mazda are known to have a liking for strange and rare engine choices. But these engines i suspect may be fickle and costly to put right if they go wrong. But i do love these big xedos 9's. The old 2.5 is cheap to fix or replace, but a bit gutless and the 2.3 miller is on paper the better engine and natural progression as some or most 2.5's are long in the tooth now. Anyone with any knowledge of these engines or pitfalls with them
Nothing goes wrong with them at all really - There were a few that needed the super charger rebuilding, but they really are few and far between.
Don't expect it to be as rev happy as the 2.5 V6, they're definitely more of a luxo barge, with lots of lazy torque - The way they drive is lovely, and just makes you want to sit back and waft around
The rear bank of spark plaugs aren't fun though (a few hours work!!)
The cambelt is easier to change than the normal V6 (Which is a doddle anyway) as the covers split into 4 pieces rather than two on the V6
They are more than capable of big mileages, with the only things that wear out (outside of tyres, pads etc) are the rear suspension bushes
This was one car that Mazda deinitely got right - Flawless paintwork (if you see any that have any orange peel, it's had paint) as the body was spun whilst being painted - something never repeated by them due to cost, and difficult to replicate at a bodyshop without spending a lot of money
Oh, if you find one with the original BBS wheels, check they're not buckled (inner rim normally) - They're quite soft, so as a result are prone to this, and replacements haven't been available for at least 5 years, so will result in buying an entire new set of wheels
