Saw a Nissan Juke today.

Not seen one in the flesh before. Now I thought the Fiat Multipla was ugly, but compared with the Juke, the Multipla is a supermodel!

Why would anyone want a car that looks like it's had a front end shunt?

How many times do you hear people say all cars look the same? At least this doesn't. The Ford Ka was a Marmite car when it was launched. I remember looking at one in 1996 and thinking it was ugly, the first generation car has only just been discontinued and millions must have been sold.

I see where you're coming from but don't agree. Multipla was a moment of madness from its designers and the customers stayed away - in particular the proportions were IMO all wrong.

What's clever about Juke is it has bog-standard proportions combined with very "organic" shapes. Looks to me like it could be very successful.

Have you noticed how Nissan Qashquai has been a slow burn? On sale for years and early sales were slow yet now they are everywhere!

I should hate it on every level but I quite like it, wouldn't be seen dead in one as its a long way from my type of car but I can see why they sell well, high up, quirky, bit funky, not that expensive, economical, bit different. It has way exceeded sales targets, the Skoda Yeti is another thats not exactly stunning but is selling like mad.

All it needs it those main headlights moving up to a bigger unit combined with the sidelights and indicators, and it would look really good I reckon.

Saw a programme on the history of BMW design the other day - mentioned that the 7 series that was designed by Bangle (universally panned on launch) turned into one of their top selling 7 ranges or summat...

'challenging' design can be a grower....

I don't mind it. As folks have already said, it's different. If Nissan make a eurobox, then people complain. If they make something different, people complain. Good on them, and I hope we get more 'ugly' cars.
