It was my 10th birthday on Saturday and my Mum bought me my first proper watch.

My Nan and Grandad bought me a watch two years ago and I have worn it every day since. Mum thought it was time I had a more grown up boys watch and she has bought me a radio controlled, solar G Shock. I really am very pleased with it.

I have handed my Top Gear Stig watch down to my little brother now as he didn't have a watch.

Here is my new G Shock

It is the AWG-101-1AER model. I have worn it every day since I got it, it has been swimming, and yesterday to Diggerland (where I drove a 4x4!) and today I am going to the seaside. I hope to keep this watch for a very long time. I think it will take me a little while to get to know how to use all the functions but to learning.

Do you remember your very first watch? How long did you have it or do you still have it?

I don't remember my first watch, and certainly don't still have it but it was a long time ago smile

That's really nice! Enjoy it.

I had a blue analogue Sekonda when I was about 6... it fell in the toilet.

When I was about 10 I had a Casio calculator watch. The rubber strap broke somewhere on Exmoor and it was gone... hehe

If I recall correctly my first watch was a quartz Swatch something or other (we're talking 1980s). Then I got a Pop-Swatch (the ones you could swap out the faces with friends). But it was always a G-shock I wanted most. Still have it actually (16 years on) in a drawer in my parents house somewhere smile

Must be something about boys and G-Shocks biggrin Enjoy it!

Great choice of watch from your mum - spot on.
My first watch was an old Timex - the only gold (coloured!) watch I've ever had. Next up was an LED one, this was in the day when LED was so cool even I looked cool...until I had to read the time in sunlight while riding my bike. Then I wasn't so cool.
I can't remember after that until we get to about 18 when I borrowed my dads watch to go travelling. After that I got my first real watch with my money, a Seiko.

Well done anyway, my boys are 8 & 11 and both have Seiko 5s but my youngest wants either a pocket watch or a Darth Vader Storm watch for his birthday next month, but he's a bit mad.

from 5-10 I had a black Timex mechanical. (5th birthday present, now lost in time)
Then 10-16 I had various Zeon & timex watches with ana-digi display (various brithdays & Christmas's, same as above)
From 16 to now, my last birthday watch was & still is my 24 years young Seiko 5 auto on SS bracelet

Wow - only 10 and superb written English skills. Mum and dad must be very proud.

Anyway, you're a lucky lad indeed as my first 'proper' watch was purchased by my somewhat odd parents, and was a black and gold 007 digital watch - I think I was about your age at the time.

This was embarrassing enough, however, because my parents were cheapskates, they opted for a fake 007 watch that they acquired from the local flea market. To add to the indignity of having a watch that was utterly naff, it didn't even play the bloody theme tune alarm. cry

Funnily enough I still have it and it's pristine as I never wore it. I'm open to offers hehe

Be thankful you have such kind and fashion aware parents!

My very first watch was a Timex red Snoopy watch. Snoppy's hands moved round. I loved it, was this one. Am sure I still have this in an old jewellery box somewhere too.

Then around the summer of 1979 whilst at junior school a friend's Dad was director or something for Texas Instruments. He donated first prize to the school Summer Fayre. Which I won. I vaguely recall being taken to their HQ in Bedford and browsing through catalogues. I got to choose my watch which was one of their new lines. From what I recall it was this one

I also recall most of the boys being a bit envious.

I haven't worn a watch since childhood in the early '80's until recently with the beautiful gift of my ladies diamond ceramic
Tag F1. I love it so much.

And yes, Elias is a very bright lad, I really am quite proud of my genius son. Thank you. He's a bit of a Maths genius (recently on a Masterclass at Kimbolton School) so fully deserving of this gift.

Am pleased you like your watch Elias and hope it gives you some great memories smile

Didn't realise he was yours Gretchen. He seems very much a credit to you - perhaps you could sign up for the PH grammar police.

Back on topic, not mine (as mine was fake and I seem to have misplaced it), but this is how it should have looked.

I had a manual wind Timex. My mum still has it. My second watch was an Avia automatic watch. It's still here in my desk drawer and it still works.

PS Your written English is very good for a 10 year old!

My first watch was a silver faced mechanical Timex, received for, I think, my 6th birthday.

I thought it was lost, but happily it turned up last week during a sort-out of some old stuff still at my parents house. Happy days.

Now - is it too precious to give to my son as his first watch when he's old enough? scratchchin

Mine was free with tokens from Kit Kat - definitely not as cool as a Stig watch let alone a G Shock. More memorable for its awfulness was my second watch which was a nasty fake Rolex from Thailand, that my Uncle gave me - I knew it was less than genuine when both the hands fell off inside, about 2 hours later.

Very nice G-Shock you have there, and no doubt the start of a life long hobby!

Next up for you would probably be a Seiko automatic I would think.

I think my first ever watch was a Citizen digital, no longer have it but I do have this one which is the same age as me, 42 years old!

Happy watchkeeping Elias, we look forward to seeing you back here keeping us updated with your next watch!

This was my brothers first proper watch (actual first was a Donald Duck one), the Bond theme tune was the alarm and holding down a certain button played it at any time which we did to the annoyance of my parents. I was very jealous as I was given a Zeon Calcualator watch which was not as admired in the playground.

The buttons kept splitting on my calculator watch and the bond watch went for one too many accidental swims so soon died sadly.

The water resistance quoted on the face was optimistic!!

Wow, I was just thinking that my first watch was a Timex 24 Hour watch but that I'd never find a picture of one and then you pop up with this! Mine was the same except without the date complication.
