Steam Washing Machines

Moving house and buying a new washing machine. Amazon reviews says a Candy XYZ is the pretty good at £240.

Except the OH is quite taken with a £550 Steam Washing Machine (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003ULOYT4) so is it worth it?

Seeing as a slightly hotter than the label stated wash reduced some of my wifes clothing to barbie sized cloths fk knows what STEAM would do!!

Anyway, it's bubble technology now, steam was so last year...

I wanted a huge washing machine that weighed 10 tons and you needed to shovel coal into it and keep all the brass bits shiney

We have a steam washing machine as you say at extra cost, just asked my wife would you buy one again.

The answer is it does not do anything different than tha normal washing machine except use a little bit less water, it does not make any difference to your clothes.
Don't waste the extra money.

Get a direct drive machine they are honestly silent we got an LG direct drive with steam and the mrs like to steam the kids clothes but with the direct drive you can stand next to it whilst it's spinning at 1400 and you can barely hear it!!

This replaced a 4 yes old hoypoint that was so loud you couldn't have a conversation in the next room!!

+1. I loathe doing laundry, but the LG Direct Drive machines we just got are a godsend compared to the 10-15 year old Bosch they replaced. Much quieter, and they play a natty little tune at the end of the wash cycle that gets stuck in my head every time I hear it

I think the price you quoted for the Candy will say it all....
Think steam is just a fad, get loads of rusty steam heaters (just take the lid of your shiny LG, after removing plug of course and you will see what I mean) at very young ages and many just dont use the feature. Direct drive is just backward technology BTW, no quiteter than any similar priced, induction motor machine, and washing machine belt problems just dont happen, or very rarely anyhows.

Talking of the latest 'fad' being bubbles; just noticed in the Makro mail, as of the 10th:

Samsung Ecobubble (don't you just love that name) WF0702WKE 7kg @ £299.99 plus VAT. Thought it worth a mention.

ETA: Not available at their Teesside store.
