Anyone put a Cat-C back on the road?

Had a search and there are various, ‘should I buy this Cat C?’ type threads, I know the car needs a Vehicle Identity Check; but, I’m curious if anyone has actual experience of doing this, and whether it actually follows what’s on the DircetGov site: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSell...

Here’s the car (having sat outside for a fair while, pre-repair clearly!):


Repairs are progressing well, summer project for my father in fact (very kindly offered, and he does have the space/time that I don’t). I acquired another GTV with a broken cambelt for less than a freshly painted bonnet, even in the same colour which was handy for the bumper and bonnet; it also gave up a set of lights, a radiator and various ancillaries as well. Appears to have a fancy stainless exhaust system on it too, although I’m waiting to make sure the repaired vehicle works properly and passes all the checks, before faffing about making any changes other than simply repairing it

Anyway, spares sourcing aside, once fully reassembled and we’ve got round the alarm/Italian electrical issues it usually has when reconnecting the battery, the process appears to be:

Insurance cover for all involved, including the dog for good measure!
MOT
VIC
Apply for Tax Disc
Done

So... anyone done this?

I put a old Discovery through the VIC system in the spring as it was a Cat C write off.

Turned up with all vehicle documents (MOT, insurance certificate), tester collected vehicle and delivered it back 10 minutes later with a pass certificate. I then drove straight to the DVLA office to get a Tax Disc and to apply for a log book using a V62 form.

Was really surprised how simple and painless it was as i had reservations regarding what was documented on the website and how it would actually turn out in reality.
