Unguided trekking in winter in Scotland
Discussion
I have a fair but if experience doing unguided treks outside of Europe, Nepal - Kala Pattar, Gokyo, Chukkung Ri, Annapurna also Patagonia ¡V Torres del Paine etc. These have all been done in the autumn/ late spring months with a fair bit of snow about. But my UK walking has been restricted to Lakes, Peaks and Dartmoor with limited peril!
With current money and family restrictions I am looking a bit closer to home for a spot of adventure, hence Scotland in early Dec or Feb. Can anybody recommend some winter routs in Scotland? I do not want to put myself or friends at risk, but I¡¦d like something challenging. Rope work should be avoided as one of my friends is not an experienced climber, but limited ice axe and crampons are not a problem. We have a camper van to sleep in and are happy to trek for as long as there is light. Does anybody have route suggestions, advice or book recommendations ƒº
