Hi,

Is anyone else having trouble locating Michelin PSS stock for 265/35/19 sizes? I've had a set on order since June with CostCo but neither they, nor Michelin, know when they will be getting stock! I'm getting desperate as my rears are down to about 2-3mm!

Cheers

Great - thanks for the replies, I'll give them both a try. I'll have to cancel my order with CostCo though, which is a shame as I got 20% off a set of 4!
p.s. Michelin themselves say they're not getting more stock for at least another 5 weeks...

Are PSS an improvement on PS2 for an E92 M3? What difference do you notice?

I've not actually got them on my car yet, but they are meant to offer dry grip equivalent to Cup tyres, and greatly improved wet traction compared to PS2s. Full review here: http://www.roadandtrack.com/special-report/review-...

Once I've got them fitted, I'll report back smile

Had mine on since april and they are a good road tyre and not bad in the wet either.the ps2 was a good tyre though. They are not anywhere near as good as cups or cup+ as i have a set of wheels with them on as well and driven on road and public toll road with both smile

Hmm, maybe I was being a bit optimistic with the expectation of "Cup-like" grip smile

Do you recommend the PSS over the PS2 for non-track use?

They are a very good tyre you wont be disappointed at all.I think on the road you would find it difficult to tell a lot of difference between the ps2 and pss though.I struggled to get ps2's in april so had to have the pss.Was really after just a full tread depth tyre for mile munching but good when needed,as getting caught in rain storms on cups is no fun on german autobahns.

I ran a thread on M3cutters site when I was looking to buy PSS's got various prices. If you go on their and do a search you should find my thread (same username). In the end I got 2 rear PS2's for a very good price and had them fitted.

Admit though a rare tyre, you wonder how that happens. Here's our brilliant world class new tyre.....you'll jus5t have to search the ends of the earth to buy it rolleyes

I have found a set of PSS to be noticeably better than PS2 on my CSL, for road use. Much grippier in the dry, you can feel the the chassis gets more loaded up when cornering as a result.

I wouldn't refit PS2s now.

Update:
I've just spoken to Michelin again and they reckon it could be another 2 months (!) before they get stock, and that was just a guess. WTF?! Anyway, that's no good for me as my rears are between 2-3mm and I'm not sure I want them to get any closer to the legal limit.

At what tread depth do you guys tend to get new tyres? I know the legal limit is 1.6mm but I'm pretty sure grip levels tail off below 3mm (even in the dry, but I could be wrong!)

I think I will have to cancel my CostCo order and buy from eTyres or similar (Thanks ryandoc for your earlier advice smile). Shame, as 4 PSS at costco were £1063 (20% off). eTyres have them in stock at £362 each inc VAT+fitting. eek

I know, the price is ridiculous, but the cheapest I can find PS2s in 265/35/19 98Y is £320 each so there's not much difference.

You other option is to go wider, or slightly smaller.

You can get a 275/30r19 for £284 from Camskill.

You can get a 275/30r19 for £286 from Camskill.

Thanks but I'd rather not go with non OEM sizes, especially as those ones above are not high enough load rating.

No probes at all hope it helped a little.

Still amazes me how a consumable like a tyre can be so hard to get hold off as guaranteed there'll be people choose another tyre/brand when they find they have to wait months for a PSS

Got a puncture last night in one of the rears (PS2's) on my M3 saloon. I was about to start shopping around for some fronts anyway.

Tried to get a set of four Supersports but no joy from about half a dozen sources (19 inch wheels), so off this afternoon to get four PS2's fitted.

Seems a fundamental flaw in the selling process if you have a product but cannot make it sufficiently available for customers to buy. Madness in these times of economic difficulties.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I eventually managed to get a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports fitted to the M3 so I thought I'd report back. I've done about 100 miles so far. They do seem a bit slippery at the moment, but this may be a function of them still being scrubbed in, damp-ish roads, or the fact of going from 1.6mm tread on my old tyres to 8mm tread on the new ones. I hope once I've done a few more miles the confidence will build.

They do seem a soft in the sidewall though, I'm not sure I'm just imagining that! They are the OEM spec Extra Load (98Y rear, 93Y front) and I've set them to 2.5 bar (36 psi) all round.

Is anyone else running these tyres? How do you find them? Should I be more patient in running them in before expecting greatness?! smile
