DJ Kit - advice sought
Discussion
Need to point out that we are not talking Teisto / Guetta here - mobile, DJ; Pubs, Halls, etc...
Been doing this on and off for the past 10 years or so and - mainly pubs, village hall, home party type stuff. People tell me I'm rather good. This has lead to an increase in interest and bookings for larger events; weddings, corporates, etc. I've done a few of these this year and all have gone very well but has exposed what I think is the need for a major kit upgrade.
At the moment, music is controlled via Djay on an MacBook Pro and a twin deck Numark CD player. For audio quality, CD is best and the DJay software is pretty good but lacks a certain sparkle but is compensated by the flexibility.
I either rent a Soundcraft mixer and run through a couple of EV350s (Powered) or borrow a friend's Mackie gear - two powered 1600s and Mackie mixer. This though is really designed for live music and way too complicated for discos.
Was sparked to think on this as on Saturday, went to pick up the EVs from the rental place who had a KV2 set up and testing. Sounded truly awesome, which at £25k they should.
I'm pretty well versed on home audio but having looked at the various DJ supplier sites, am at a loss as to what's good and not so any more sensibly priced suggestions, pointers would be gratefully received.
I'll dedicate a song to each of the most useful replies at my next gig!!
