Mark is a really decent chap. I have used his business twice and the results were excellent. He ran me into my office in the centre of Nottingham both times too. Couldn't recommend Wheel Specialist more highly.

As my office is only a couple of miles away from his unit, I got a lift to the office rather than the bus stop!

What I liked about Perfection Alloys was that they came to my house, did the job swiftly and it was relatively inexpensive.

What I DIDN'T want was to have to take the wheel or vehicle somewhere and leave one or the other.

Manks - what is the quality of their work like and how long do you think (and at what cost) it will take them to do 4 wheels at my house?

Quality of work - not had a wheel repaired before so I have no point of reference. The repair is hard to see, though the paint is not as smooth as the original (a few tiny grit particles). I would say for £50+ VAT, done at my house, it was good value.

Thinking about this, there is a notable difference between "repair" and "refurbishment"

When I had my wheels refurbed, they were removed from the car, tyre removed, acid bathed (or whatever they use these days) to strip them back to the bare metal, repainted in a typical body shop type spray booth, and then baked.

Are the "repairs" carried out in the same way, or do they simply treat the damaged area (a bit like chipsaway I suppose?)

Can the mobile chaps strip and repaint a wheel on site?

For the record, my wheels cost me around £70+vat each to be done

Bloke in a transit pitches up, side door open.

Breaks the bead of the tyre, grinds off damaged area and repaints. Think he might have put a heat lamp on it. Two pack paint I think.

Reinflates tyre, puts wheel back on car.

I was being picky. For a job done on my drive in the back of a van, for fifty quid, it is marvellous.

A proper refurb, as mentioned, can be done in a proper painting environment. I suppose a tent could have been erected, smart repair style, but I think the price may be higher and for the difference in quality I doubt I'd want to pay the extra.

All four of the wheels on my wifes Cherokee are pretty poor with laquer peeling, and I'd like to have them all done before winter arrives.

One option I was considering was to have the shot blasted or acid dipped, then powder coated. Has anyone else had something simular done, and were you happy with the results?

You need a refurb, not a repair. Still worth trying the people I used (number above) or the other outfit mentioned.
