Help! 159SW, BMW520D or Kuga?

I don't know what I want really, and there in lies the problem.

Currently have a 156 JTS, but need more (boot/kid)space, fewer worries about speed bumps or road cambers, and basically something newer with more toys. I guess it must be my age. If I were without kids, of course I would buy a Griffith or 350C or RS4 etc. Current commute is trivial (6 miles round trip - no comments about bikes please) and I have a X-plate base fiesta for 'municipal trips'. Budget ~18k, but Mrs C stipulates post 2007.

Obviously I can get a cracking 159 (tbi ?), a low miles, newish Kuga or a 09, 30k BMW.......erm...

Apart from test driving them and finding one you prefer, I would go for the Alfa - in my opinion the best looking estate in your range (age, cost etc.)

The Alfa is best looking yes, although not as good as the 156 IMHO.
The BMW would have to be a Dame Edna version unfortunately, but they have a good side aspect.
I think the Kuga is pretty good in a 'focus on steroids' kind of way....

FFS. Put that to one side and get yourself a 535d.. Make sure to get the M Sport to ensure the wife feels every bump in the road.

They did an LCI facelift in 2007 so you get pre and post LCI versions.

I'm in a similar dilema myself only this is as a work / commute car. Long story short wife has nearly 2 year old Kuga can buy outright soon(ish) for a good price as we got heavy discount from new from Ford Direct. I drive a Saab 9-3 Aero 640 miles a week. Want to change to E60 5 series.
Anyway wife will get a work car soon so do I keep/buy the low mileage 2 year old Kuga or get a 100K mile E60. Seems a no brainer but my commute is a 320 mile run and after spending 1.5 years in a T reg golf TDi (great car amazing mpg but starting to show its age) and then last 1 year in the Saab (bought on impulse cos it looked and drove 'nice' but only 32-34 mpg at best) I really want to be in a 5 series.

We got that much of a discount on the Kuga I think it could buy it and sell on for small profit, and now i'm not here to screw people over it would genuinely be a good price all round. The only thing about the Kuga is the seats aint the best, but all round its a cracking motor. It would also be the sensible option as my commute is into Scotland and winter snow!!
