Looking at buying a ready converted X3 3.0i or converting my own and came across this pics online:

I like the placement of this tank as opposed to a tank inside the luggage area.
This looks like only 45-60l tank though which is limiting (I had a 45l tank in a 33i and was fillng up every 150-180 miles).

Anyone have experience of such a tank placement - what was there before and did it cost allot extra to do?

Ideally I would want to make teh petrol tank small (just 20l) and put the LPG there but I ave not sen this doe yet (and would probably be too expensive)

Also, very clever placement of the filler nozzle on this X5 -under teh fuel filer cap so holes in the body!

I ran a Discovery V8 on LPG and had three lpg tanks - two 'torpedo' tanks, one in between each main chassis rail on the inside and the door sill on the outside plus one which replaced the petrol tank and just left a small petrol tank of 10 litres or so. I can't remember the exact amount of litres but ISTR it gave about 320miles between fill ups. On that X5 it looks like they replaced the spare wheel with an lpg tank and then they give you a can of foam for punctures.

If they've replaced both the petrol tank and the spare wheel well with LPG tanks you should get a half decent range, if it's just the spare wheel, probably 140 miles or so between fill-ups.

That sounds interesting...did you have the conversion done yourself or did you buy it like that - I like the idea of replacing the petrol tank leaving just 10-20l say but wonder what it does to the cost of the conversion.

I ran a 330i with just 45l tank in the spare wheel well and was filling up way to often (150-180miles) which was my only complaint.

From the brief look I have had of the X3 I think that the spacer saver spare usually lives in that area.

Thanks.
The company that does it as gotten back to me and confirmed that is where the space saver lived. Normal fuel tank still in place. 60l is the biggest they can get under the body though - would prefer 80l but that has to go in the boot.

They may be able to do the filler nozzle next to the petrol filler - on the X5 the space is big enough but they are not sure on the X3 until they inspect.

No extra charge for under body placement and the filler nozzle in the fuel filler cap. They want 1500.00 for the job (BRC kit) and includes a flash lube system, certificate, 36month warranty and a courtesy car.
Seems pretty good value - I paid 2k for Prins system on a 330i (without flashlube) a few years back but I think Prins is more expensive than BRC but they both seem to be leading brands.
