Hi all

So the last drive out was a great one, and fun was had by all. I think the time has come to organise number two in the Balders dawn raid series. It'll be the first Sunday of september (Sunday the 4th), and consist of another dales hoon, albeit with a slightly different route I expect becuase as they say, variety is the spice of life! I have been told (by a biker), if my memory serves me correctly that the road from Buckden to Hawes, via Beckermonds is a great stretch but I may have got the road wrong. If that is the case it will cut the corner off and would allow time from buttertubs, but I'll let the majority decided if they fancy a run up there as it seems to split opinion. Start time and place are likely to be the same as last time, for those that came. (ETA - Early Start!)

Same rules as last time, stick to posted limits, keep the car behind in sight and wait for them at each junction and no one should get lost. Sensible driving, no four wheel drifting please.

Just to reitterate the idea is that everyone is welcome whether they are driving a fiat cinquecento, or the worlds loudest testerossa.

PM me for details on start place, time and the route once it's finalised and add your name/car to the list!

hehe I don't remember that. A biker who gave me direction when I was lost in the Dales mentioned it a while back too.

I don't blame you for taking the Z4, I was cringing just driving behind you in the TR.

Off topic I know... but I would quite like to hear which terrain suits the big TR best.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I am going to be completely clusterfked in the teeny-tiny twisties with the Citroen but then as so much of these European races are on roads like that I feel like I need to master piloting the big girl on these roads.

Ben, it is a very wide car but, as you would expect from Maranello, the chassis is sublime and you can actually throw it about a bit, quite enthusiastically... as surprised a couple of the guys on the last run.

The best roads are undoubtedly open sweeping continental roads (or our A and good B roads). I do have to take it very gingerly if the roads are too narrow or surface too uneven as it has a very long nose overhang.

On motorways it's just brutal! smile

Hmm, I can see the appeal of that. Looking forward to seeing it at full chat some day.

I've got a terrible itch at the moment to go out and buy something purpose built for tight, twisty stuff. I really fancy an Alpine A110 but they're a bit punchy after dropping serious moolah on the DS.

I may be up for this. Is it open to OH's too?

Is the meet place still Skipton? Have you planned in a stop for refreshments etc?

Thanks

Phil - No it is not Skipton. Email Balders through his profile for details.

There isn't much open at that time of the morning (6am set off) but we do have a couple of 5-10 stops to stretch your legs, take pics... bring a flask smile

OHs are welcome if they are really that interested and, you can drag them out of bed that early!

The aim is to try and end up near a cafe type place, but there are not that many open around the Skipton area that early, that's why we finished at Otley last time.

Yeah that'll be fine. Not entirely sure where carlisle is, but I reckon you'll wanna meet us near the north/west of the dales? Could meet us in hawes before a trip up buttertubs maybe, but the route hasn't been planned totally yet so no point in deciding for sure.
