First Chim bought, what have I let myself in for?

14 hour day getting a train up to Scotland and driving back

what have I let myself in for? the noisy is amazing, brakes awesome, pulls like a train in everygear, but a few niggles I need some help with.
After a couple hours driving the charge light comes on randomly, dimly, then off again, then on? very intermittant. Battery must be charging I think because I did about 5 stops and it started everytime.
exhaust manifold blowing - already ordered gaskets, arp bolts and nord washers.
needs new carpet, been looking on the forums but can anyone recommend somewhere in the midlands or shall i just order one and fit it, anyone done this before?
how noisey are the SD1 gearboxes normally? seems to be a bit of transmission noise, i didn't notice when test driving as i was stupidly too busy listening to the exhausts. apparantly box was rebuilt 1000 miles ago, got reciepts i think but i dont know if the noise is normal? seems to get every gear fine, no slipping out etc? doesn't happen when clutch is depressed, wondering if that would indicate diff? or something like wrong oil used in box or diff?
Its not great at low revs, going slow, guessing its because of wildcat heads and cam. its great with giving it some though. i'm just going to live with this i think.
any help appreciated

Wild cat heads there worth a fortune ..
yeah the silver 93 on.
I'm in Langley Mill just near IKEA. I'm going to have a weekend playing about with her, needs some wiring sorting for the stereo (not that it will ever be turned on).
It's a but lumpy at like 30 or 40 miles an hour but its foooooking awesome when it's floored, not really an ideal cam for road but i will get used to it.
it's a shock not having power steering again but I like it. brakes are awesome, needs new tyres on the front but thats not a big deal really, they have tread but are crap.
yeah it was the 93 from Scotland, needs some tidying up but seems a realy good start for a project

The SD1 LT77 gearbox can be noisey if its been run on ATF oil for its life (as recommended by Land Rover) , and the bearing wear at higher mileages. From memory I think the typical symptom is bearing noise that dissapears when you are in 5th. AFT oil is not suitible, and there are some specialist oils for this gear box, check out the site:

or you can use a 75 grade semi sythetic, but allow it a mile or two to warm up in cold weather with carefull gear changes or the syncro wont work correctly. (This is why the "fix" was to use thin gear oil.) You can by bearing kits for not to much money if you want to rebuild, but you may find using thicker oil and keeping it topped up is enough to keep it quiet.
I talk generically here about the lt77 Box, I dont know if it was fitted to early Chim's or what oil TVR used ?

i'm looking at about 350 for a carpet set then fit it myself.
i'm wondering how much more it costs to get someone to do it for me? is it worth me messing around?
