Aerial replacement

Chaps,

Have any of you replaced your aerial and base recently?

I bent mine recently (annoying...) and as the base is split I fancy replacing the whole lot. Although I currently have (had) one if those electric jobs, I think I want something fixed and unscrewable as a replacement. The paintwork under the existing base is pretty crappy, so any replacement needs to have a similar (or bigger) footprint.

What have people used recently and where did you get them from?

Have you tried using your radio without the aerial. I found it made no difference, as the aerial lead which runs from the back of the radio to the rear wing (in the false sill) worked perfectly well without an external aerial.

I covered the hole with a chrome bolt cover dome.

I discovered the terminal in the boot had broken, however - as Roy said - the radio gets perfect reception anyway, so I haven't bothered to repair it, and will do away with the aerial and save some space!

Halfrauds had a good selection when i replaced the flexible unsrewable section of mine, but the had a good rabge of all ytpes, electric, ficed, bases or without.

my radio doesn't work with or without aerial but i quite like the sight of one on the rear wing

The problem I had with the Halfrauds stuff was that the footprint of the bases aren't big enough to cover the paintwork that is covered by the old base- underneath my old base there's actually a gap in the paint, as if the factory sprayer just couldn't be bothered- only relatively small but enough to make the offside rear wing look a bit shabby...

Not exactly an invisible repair but for a quick fix how about spraying some sticky back plastic with a touch up aerosol then cut out a piece to cover the area before fitting replacement aerial
