Insurance anomalies

I know theres plenty fo insurance threads on here anyway, but just thought I'd see if anyone else has noticed and strange anomalies when getting insurance quotes.

I've been getting quotes using confused.com, and it's very easy to quickly change details to see what quotes it throws out.

The first anomaly is in the types of cover- Third party vs. TPF&T vs. Comprehensive.
My cheapest quote was £1110 third party, yet it nearly halved to £620 TPF&T and dropped another £5 for fully comprehensive. Surely this is the total opposite of what you'd expect?

The other thing I noticed is driving convictions- my policy DROPPED by £20 when I declared a SP30 in 2007.

Whats going on? And has anyone else noticed any unusual trends?


p.s. The overwhelming trend is that it is all bloody expensive but I don't want this to be an insurance ranting thread!

As I understand it, it's all about risk. The equation is not a linear you + car + convictions - NCB = premium, it's about past trends on people who have/had that car, what they had, and thus what is likely to happen to you.

Comprehensive is quite often cheaper than TPFT once you're past a certain age.

All IMO of course, I don't work for an insurance company
