My mental ex has borrowed (our) car to see friends 300 miles away. She's now locked the keys in the boot!

New key will take a week from a dealer - AA man says he has to break the rear window?!

I'm at work raging - any thoughts? Obviously pm might be best smile

Often cars do have 'secret' manual boot release, maybe if the boot is not electrically operated?
Not the kind of things that manufacturers or people on forums publicise but someone might be able to tell you.

If its a pre 2006. Get the key number from the dealer and her to get a blank cut at a key specialist. Use blank to open door and get keys.

If it's post 2006 (MK2) you're screwed and you need to go up there with the spare or wait for a new one.

Do you know if you can get in the boot from the inside of the car?

If so it will be a lot easier and cheaper to replace a smashed door glass.

If there's a spare remote key then while on the phone to her blip the unlock button, might work. If not then break the window but google which window is the cheapest to replace first and never smash the drivers one.

The AA man won't cut a key unless you've got the V5 etc.

I don't buy that. You can break into a TT really easily with a teflon wedge, which a real AA man would have with him - just bends the window back from the seal a little to allow a hook in.

Who is telling you the AA man said no?

Now that doesn't sound like a bad idea. Do we trust the post? If the spare goes AWOL we're really stuffed

That's what I thought - but he's been there over an hour and apart from setting the alarm off by 'trying to start the ignition from under the car' hasn't got anywhere

How mental? Worth losing half a car over? After all she's now stuck an awful long way away. Result!

I'm sorry but I can't help with the unlocking problem.

I did this with my TT... Why do the put a boot release button on the key!?

I had a mate at Audi who got me a spare blank cut (just to open the door) with 24 hours. They can do it!

When I called the AA they said I'd have to sign a form to say that I accept liability for any damage... and they were going to take 1.5 hours to get to me... Hold on, I'm going to wait 90 minutes for someone else to come and smash my window!!?? I could have done that myself!!!!!

Send it special delivery, and yes, it's trust worthy.

Tell her to smash the back window in, then call autoglass and pay for a replacement.

I've seen this first hand - the guy from Audi used a long wire with a hook bent into the end. He inserted it between the window and the roof and used it to unfold the rear seat. It was then used to hook the keys out of the car. Took over three hours...
