After being guided away from an Audi V6 2.5 TDi, I'm now wondering whether it would be worth going for the above.

I've currently got a Saab 9-5 1.9 TiD, and want something with a little more power, for less dosh - anything up to £4k.

I know of the rust problems on these cars, but is there anything else I should be aware of? I'm after an Auto Estate.

Is the E220CDi worth considering, or is that a bit underpowered? Don't fancy a C class as they look a bit small.

The 220 is no slouch, but it is a big car to haul around and I would go for the 320 every time. They are great cars but they rust like no other car I have ever owned. If you can find a rust free example, go for it.

Hirsch the Saab?

Or what about an older 9-5 Aero, not as thirstly on fuel as you may think, unless you do a lot of town driving.

I had one back in the day and wouldnt go there again. It rusted had injector leak and electrical problems all at 2 years old. Upside was real grunt from the straight six. I have audi 1.9tdi which is great but manual only safe option as you know. i also had 2x bmw e39 touring and for your requirement its where my money would go.
