Bought some wheels and tyres some time ago....how can you tell the tyres have for want of a better word gone off....so hard they are not at there best?

I can tell you that a 22 year old, unused wedge spacesaver was red hot after a ten mile, 40 mph 'get me off the M5' trip.

Depends how old and how they've been kept. Side wall cracks, possibly poor handling in the wet, and getting hot quite quickly are signs to look out for.

Have a crack with a 10 mile run on a Sunday morning and see how you go. If in doubt, bin 'em. smile

Front end not brilliant at moment and wondering f tyres are older than i think and basically gone off.....rock hard

You can get a device to tell how hard the rubber is.
Some say if the tyers are older than 6 plus years they are passed there best.

There is a code on the sidewall of he tyre that will tell you how old they are.
