I caught one of the episode the other day, he did seem to enjoy what he was doing. It was interesting to compare him to the other soldiers that featured on the episode I saw, A different breed of person. Hard to believe that he only had 11 or so years service. I thought he'd have been a lifer.

Did I see correctly that he was using live rounds as ear defenders?

I'm glad they repeated this as my series link messed up last time, I love guns and bombs and military stuff in general but there is a special joy in watching someone who so transparently loves what they are doing. The best episode is about rifles where he is ribbing the British chap he is shooting with.

To the poster above it looks like he uses spent brass rather than live rounds as ear defenders - legend.

Future Weapons with ex-SEAL 'Mac' is pretty good too, very similar to Lock & Load, just without the humour that comes with that presenter.

Think it's showing on QUEST these days.

I seem to remember he was medically discharged or someting like that. Not sure what he did as I thought he was a drill instructor by the end.
