DeGrasse-Tyson, and Cosmos

Well, all things spacish seems to be put in here, so might as well put it here...

Neil DeGrasse Tyson has just announced that he will be filming a modern retake on the Sagan classic documentary series, Cosmos. Great news. Some mightily big shoes to fill, mind.

I had a horrible premonuition that it was going to be a remake of "Cosmos" by MIKE Tyson.

I remember watching that with my folks - Sagan always pronounced Mars as 'Morruz'

His description of a four dimensions with 'Flatland' was very good, in the same way as Ustinov explained the theory of relativity with trains and somebody else did black holes with a weight on a rubber sheet. Remove one dimensiion and things get so much easier!

Excellent series though - watched it again a couple of months ago with my son, first time I'd seen it since it was first shown

If you like cosmos, have a look at the symphony of science. They use it a lot in their tracks.

The soundtrack in the original Cosmos was awesome. Vangelis featured a lot Hope the new version carries on with this tradition.

I converted the audio from Cosmos to an audio book. Very good indeed on its own without the visuals. Still my favorite doc thus far.

And therein lies a difference - the modern 'space documentary' is 90% CGI and music, 10% facts. But hey, they need the ratings.

Why? It's a fact that the materials we are made off are from distant stars that went BOOOOM! Are you as bored with being told you are made of organic matter, or tiny little atoms?
