Picked up an E39 M5 as the new daily driver, what an awesome machine.

The chap I bought the car from has retained his private plate and I now have a copy of the logbook with the cars original plate which I need to fill in the New Keepers details and send it off to DVLA.

I have a cherish plate I'd like to put on the car so my question is, is it possible to go to a DVLA office and kill 2 birds with one stone, ie register the car in my name with my cherish plate?

Or do I have to send off the original with my details and wait for the new logbook with moi as the registered keeper before I can apply to put my cherish plate on?

Thanks

You can do both at the same time at local DVLA office. Done it many times

Usually the car you want to transfer the plate to has to be registered to you, plus you have to send off the MOT certificates from the donor and recipient cars (if over 3 years of course).
I suspect some DVLA offices are more helpful than others, the one in Glasgow is very good smile
