P38A or L322, have I gone mad.....
Discussion
Expat living out in Oz and it appears the only decent deal you can get out here on a 4x4 is a rangie. If its not got a Toyota badge down here nobody wants it! You pretty much pay the same price for a 12-15 year old cruiser with twice the mileage as you do for a L322. Seems crazy?
P38's are very reasonable, but how unreliable are they really if the service history is there and the maintenance has been done? Stretching to an early L322 is also a possibility, again is it worth the extra? My fairly limited understanding was that they were built when BMW was at the helm so should be considerably better screwed together.
I realise that condition and history are going to be the most important factors but it would be good to hear some stories from those with real experience.
Cheers

I have 2 l322's and would seriously recommend them, one of my two don't ask is a 2002 4.4 v8 with 138k on the clock, just done 200 mile round trip and it was faultless.
It has all the toys, tv, comfort seats, etc etc, just a fab vehicle
I drove the v8 and the 3.0 td6 and just loved the v8 average consumption 20 and 25 on a run, I don't think the td6 is much better.
The other l322 is a supercharged one that arrives in a couple of weeks which is hilarious fun.
Not sure on price difference in oz but my 2002 one is probably worth about 8k ( it is up for sale) but it is in pretty good Nick with full service history and 12 months mot.
The key is correct and good servicing as they get older
