Got a bit of a dilemma. I will be having a weeks Holiday in Monaco next month and I'm not sure which of my two cars to take! My first car is a totally mint and standard Corrado VR6, the second is my daily snotter; an Accord Type R with scuffed bumpers few dents.

Both cars are totally standard (with the exception of the ATR which has an front strut brace) and i'm leaning more towards the Corrado because the thought of driving some French mountain roads with the Sunroof open and that wonderful VR6 noise is already making my mouth water biggrin But one of my mates being a Honda nut is begging me to take the Type R and to be fair for hooning it probably would be the better car.

Pros and cons I can see so far;

Corrado
+ Quiet, comfy
+ Good mpg when at motorway speeds (34mpg easily)
+ Lovely noise
- No Air Con and leather interior = very sweaty holiday?
- Amazing B road car, but will it be any good on tight french mountain roads?

Accord
+ LSD. So guaranteed fun on the handling front
+ Comfiest Recaro seats i've ever sat in & nicest steering wheel i've ever held
+ Loads of space
+ Good MPG when not ragging (35mpg+)
- Noisy and boomy between 60-80mph (13 hour drive remember!)
- Not really the sort of car you want to be see in around Monaco? (It's a bit Chav). Plus it's full of dents.

Any ideas as need to book the Ferry soon frown

Would be the Corrado for me. You say the ATR is your daily, so maybe driving on holiday in the Corrado will be more special.

Also, exhaust boom-iness after 13 hours will be hell, and besides, I think the more torque rich power delivery of the Corrado will be better suited to twisting mountain roads that you are unfamiliar with.

Take the Corrado, it's rare and iconic and sounds amazing when you wind it up!

Corrado for me. Should be fantastic on the winding French mountain roads.

Having owned a Corrado VR6 years ago, I`d take the VW. It`ll do the trip down there easily and will be a blast once you`re down.

The Accord - just because it has air-con.

The drive through Northern France will be fine without air-con, but once you get half way down, you're very likely to regret not having it, especially if you encounter any slower traffic.

You've never sat in a traffic jam in the South of France in the summer have you?

The Accord sounds like a fun car, not a boring repmobile. OP Take the Accord. If your partner/wife is going with you she will never forgive you for not taking a car with aircon.

You`re quite right, I haven`t. But I have been in a traffic jam in Italy. Yep, it was very hot!

Remember, the whole of France is on holiday at the moment. He WILL get stuck in some nasty traffic, even on the Autoroute queueing for the toll booths. If this was a sheddy std Accord I'd understand the choice of the Corrado, but not since its a Type R, which is a fun car.

Just me travelling on my todd but a few other Euro boxes in convoy. I've been to St Tropez about 3 or 4 times and the traffic jams are a nightmare. But I would imagine the sunroof would help matters allot. Or how about one of these? biggrin

But this might happen...

car with the aircon every time... traffic will be bad all along that coast and you'll not have any fun a hot car going nowhere.

Normally we would go in early/late August. But this year we're going in late September. Temperature usually drops down from about 27-31*oc to about 20*c-24*c. Hot but I suppose not massively hot smile And touch wood traffic will be a bit better.

Why? They are rubbish on short journeys let alone long ones.

Hmm, you say the Corrado is mint. If you take it south it'll come back with bumpers needing repainting since the French park by touch. When I moved here 11 years back I had a pristine car too, but now I almost enjoy reversing the tow bar into what ever is behind, just like the locals. I did repaint the bumpers once (before I knew better) but now they are as scruffy as the rest around here.

I'd be more inclined to take the Corrado. But im not a very sensible person.

Lets face it, there will be times you'd wished you'd taken the ATR, but if you went in the ATR there'd be times you want to be in the Corrado.

Your clearly more enthusiastic about the Corrado, so that'd be enough for me, take that. Plus its actually an iconic car, where as the ATR is a bit meh. I know its a great fwd car and highly rated. Not an icon though like the 'rado.

It's actually going into hibernation this year and having the front and sides resprayed smile So any dings etc won't be too much of an issue.

I know what you mean though as I used to be like that. "I won't drive it in case someone hits it". Then I realized if I thought like that there would be no point in owning it! biggrin

Corrado (with 12v powered fan) it is then! biggrin

Looks like you are making the right choice with taking the VW. That is the one I would take.

Enjoy! thumbup
