Fuel pump removal SE 1989...how?
Discussion
Since last time I posted on here, a week ago, my baby, has been recovered AGAIN, from the roadside.
After hearing a bit of a wuurrring noise coming from the car somewhere I thought I' d be a little cautious, so I did n't really take the car to it's limits, but instead went for a nice little drive. After a short while it became apparent that I was losing power.....rapidly 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000 until nothing.
FUEL PUMP DIED!!!!
Could this be the reason behind the problems I have had previously?
Anyway I need to get the 2 pumps from my car to match up part no.s etc to get an uprated version (or 2)
How do you remove the 2 pumps, excactly?
The main one, which I have been told is an external one, should n't be a problem to locate and remove, but what about the 'in-tank primer pump', as this really should be replaced aswell.

I think that you may be thinking of the bosch injection system. That one uses the two pumps. The GM MPFI uses only one pump. It's in the RH tank and you remove much like any GM car unit. Turn the lock ring (after removing return and pressure lines plus electrical cable). Comes right out. You may wish to examine the strainer/filter etc. Normally these things die because of heat. Throwing in a couple gallons of nice cold gas can sometimes get you home when things go wrong. Usual cause of premature pump failure is keeping the tank too low or working the pump too hard bacause of a blocked suction line or restriced pressure line. Heat cooks the pump.

The pump is internal. O'Reily's part number on my website. Did it myself about three months ago.

Kev, the Se are internal pumps. My 1990 carb turbo is external. An external pump will take about 10 minutes to chang on a lift (30 minutes DIY if that). The SE pump is a lot of hassle and lack of space (a couple of hours maybe) unless it just unbolts from the top with 4 bolts. Still though you have to take the other gubbings out of the way first.
