I hope this is in the right section.

Yesterday I bought a mk1 MX-5. It has an alarm and immobiliser fitted, but no documentation for them.

I think the alarm is a Cobra G193 (http://www.cobravehiclesecurity.co.uk/products/alarms-and-immobilisers/basic-modular-alarm-g193.aspx) with a Sparkrite SR915 ultrasonic detector (http://home.btconnect.com/stadiumcp/Instructions/Sparkrite/SR915.pdf).

It also has what I believe to be an Autowatch 239Ti immobiliser fitted (http://www.autowatch.co.uk/product/immobiliser/239/Products_Alarms_239Ti.htm).

Alarm works fine, as does the immobiliser, but the problem is the alarm sounds whenever I open the bonnet, even when I've switched it off.

Anyone know how to stop this? Thanks for any advice.

Is there a spring loaded switch under the bonnet? Depending on whether you want that area alarmed, it might just be a case of disconnecting it.

Mind you, I quite like LK's suggestion....

Agreed - may be a faulty bonnet switch. I'm not familiar with the alarm but you may be able to turn off that input.

Sounds like an extra antitampering switch, put a heavy weight on it, or short it out, whilst you have the bonnet open.

I bet the plastic rim of the capstan drive flywheel snapped and it chewed your favourite tape, didn't it hehe

Didn't work at all and I couldn't find the Ford stereo keys so I used my patented Norfolk key instead. Also works on alarms. wink
