What is the best remap/pulley change for a SL55 AMG?
Discussion
My experience, with DMS and Kleemann, is they as we all know, all claim over and above gains than as is, thats sales for you, I have had a DMS remap my E55 previously, it was good but expensive, and/but i like my dealings with them, but think we have all read positive and negative things about all of the three mention. i currently have fitted a Kleeman K2 and some other mods, and I would say from what I have spent my monies on, I would re investigate my options, yes I have much greater horse power, but both Kleemann and the company that fitted the Kleemann products, (so called authorised dealer), have not been very after sales surrportive in regard to a after fittment issure I now have incurred, to which I have raised with both parties, I would not go back to either of those parties now, and am in the middle of investigating further upgrades with an independant party, albeit if my options were forced, I would at this time return to DMS, but ask a lot more questions.
Evolve tuning at Luton, very informed re 55K enginges, has homeworked in US where these enginges are much more explored. I spoke with Imram initially, but decided to go with CPR @ Warrington, think or believe both these contacts liaiase with each other anyway, with hindsight, I would have gone with Evolve. But hindsight is a wonderful thing as we all already know. If you where going to remap only I,d say go to DMS, any further than that, do your homework, make your choice, and all the very best.
Let us know how you get on.

I've used the kleemann 168mm pulley with no problems (has been about 10 months now), upgrading cooling system (changing heat exchanger, etc) is advisable but not necessary unless going for much larger diameter crank pulley e.g 180mm, if we were all living in california then I would suggest different! of course if tracking the car then you should really upgrade cooling
some things I learnt: certain pulleys are custom made from scratch (american sources like eurocharged performance), others like kleemann pulley are based on standard merc pulley with metal added (much more reliable)
power benefits are definitely significant, a remap is a necessity with any pulley upgrade (goes without saying), remember you will be taking a risk, a badly fitted pulley can risk damage to the engine, I used MBTech in Warrington for the fitting and the guys there were excellent and v knowledgeable, good luck and keep us informed on what happens if you go ahead with it!

Full story on the link below but short version is the owners skipped town owing money to bad people and said people went round and took a load of stuff including customers cars ?

Thanks for that info 666 SVT, very intresting, especially reflecting the previous occurance at RCD, feel sorry for a few of the guys at CPR that have become directly involved and effected by all this and had no firsthand knowledge of this downward spiral of this company, hope the remaining guys manage to salvage something from it all.
The best ( certainly not the cheapest ) are possibly MKB . You get proper work , 2 year engine warranty and full TUV approval .
Read some of their reviews . When AMG / HWA guys take their cars somewhere you know they are proper .
Rob at DMS is great with the 55 engine too .

Ahhh, I forgot MKB.
What I really want is a decent reputable company who can provide a reliable, but noticeable, difference to the already impressive performance - that extra 'kick' in the back.
Then for AMG MKB or possibly BRABUS it is . What I really want is a decent reputable company who can provide a reliable, but noticeable, difference to the already impressive performance - that extra 'kick' in the back.
As MOD500 so correctly states heat management is vitally important . Its easy to get extra horses but you want them ALL THE TIME . Too many tunes " extra power " will slowly decrease with hard use and the heat this generates and you actually end up with less power than you had pre tune ( often this is a gradual process and you dont even notice it ).
Tuners like RS TUNING cost more than others because all these factors are taken into account . Gained power is often less than that QUOTED by others but that power will be true power and the tune stand up to hard track / road use and all the extra heat dissipation issues such use will bring .
Highly worth it in my opinion . Good luck mate .
