Quick oil specification question

Hi all,

Topping up the oil for my girlfriend's 2001 Toyota Yaris, and the manual states that the preferred oil is 5w-30 SH. I've got a recent bottle of 5w-30 from Halfords which is ACEA a3 b4 c3, and it meets the VW 504/507 specification, but doesn't mention the API specification anywhere.

I've read in some places that ACEA is stricter than API, so on that basis am I safe putting this oil into the Yaris, or does it have to be something that meets the API spec?

VW 504/507 is very strict, I would be happy using it the Yaris
