Well the time has come for new rears
Had the RE050 on and they were fine but they are no longer vreadily available so was thinking about the SO2, are they softer and therefore wear quicker?
any other info would be appreciated, I dont need anything like 888 as its only for normal road use

The S02's are semi slicks and are softer and will wear out quicker. I suggest you try the Federal tyres. I'm getting the RSR's, which are a semi slick but the SS (super steels) might be a good option for you.

in same boat as you, just bought set of re050 for rear to match front off ebay, however been told by place I get all my tyres from and they contacted bridgestone that replacement is now S001, was told 3 week wait,

I'm not sure they are quite semi slicks. They were standard fitment on Astons and 911s a few years ago. The S02 is a normal, all conditions road tyre, I have run them on my previous M3, 911, and have them now on the Noble.

There a two types, SO2 which is directional and SO2A which is assymetric. For the Noble I needed 911 fitment for the front and Aston DB7 fitment for the rear...they are the same tyre though. Had them on for about 1500 miles so far and i'm very pleased.

I'm running SO2/SO2A combination too but my SO2As have directional marking?

I went from the pirelli corsa's to eagle f1 assymetricals, they were great all round but on track had very predictable understeer.

now onto trying Toyo R1R which seem to be a intermediate tread pattern on the soft 888 compound. Great on road but not had the chance to use on track yet, not noticed anyone else use them on the nobles yet, if there is would be nice to know what you think! I'll let you know how I get on on a very twisty Knockhill on September 17th.

The S02's are not slicks. I have them on my car. i have S02's and S03's on my car, cant remember which are on which axle though.

The grip seems to be good, but oddly a little slippery for 10 mins or so after not driving the car for a couple of weeks.

I have just fitted P Zero Rossos to the back on Saturday, They are seriously grippy and have a very nice mid-corner feel. Filled with Nitrogen to maintain constant temps too!

Only problem was Micheldever tyres did not have the data for setting up the alignment for a Noble so i waited 45 mins just to be told that. Annoying as the turn in is not quite as crisp on the front SO-2's now the rears are so good.

SO2 lasted 20k miles on rear of my car and 30k on front... when my car was std they were great all year round. soon as I upped the torque above 400ftlb I found them wanting traction wise but still not terrible.

I have S02A's on my spare wheels and they are very similar to the SO2's IMO.

Not sure what Martin means about semi slicks, recon he must be confusing them with another tyre? you should try my 048's in the wet

I should have mentioned that although slippery if the car is garaged for weeks on end and then driven.. Once you drive for 10 mins or so they work very well

Remember to take tyre weights into account when choosing, saving weight on a tyre far outweighs reducing the weight on the alloys, pound for pound, due to being the outer most point of the rotational mass.
I think the old PS2's are a good option being one of the lightest and good all round performance, but make sure you do not get the extra load because they have extra reinforcement in the side walls which increases weight unnecessarily.

I'm going to be using Pirelli Trofeo shortly for track use.

Has anyone used the Trofeo?

No, nothing like it, SO2s are road tyres, AO48s are track/semislicks
