Did a favour for a mate (for 6 beers of course wink ), swapped an engine and had my first drive in a Reliant Robin. What a fking scary thing to drive! Every corner, I thought the thing was going to tip over! Not to mention the dirty, notchy gearchange! Hit first a few times instead of third lol.

Yeah it was quite an experience lol. I'll admit I was quite scared a few times but I'm glad I had a drive in it. It taught me never to buy one lol!

I remember going from Burton on Trent to Cardiff in my dads Reliant Van in 1961. My mum and dad in the front, and me, my sister and three of my cousins in the back.

If you think thats overloaded, I can also remember doing 10 miles from town to home, on a Lamberetta, with my mum, dad and sister and a weeks shopping.

1961? I didn't think they made them as far back as that? I was driving a '75 today and that was a Mk1, we took the engine out of an '83 Mk2. It had Fiesta headlights. Thats something else I didn't know! Apparently the guy tried to diff it and it went on it's lid lol.

I'd buy a cheap one for a laugh then drive it until it falls over. Unfortunately the do attract a Mad Old Giffer Tax, hence surprisingly expensive

I was hitchhiking along the North Wales coast once and an old guy in a Reliant Regal took pity on me and gave nme a lift. After 5 miles I was boiling as the engine is practically alongside you and so curtailed the lift prematurely on a pathetic pretext as i could no longer stabnd being cooped up in a fibreglass coffin.

While the Robin came out around 1974, the Regal it was based on was considerably older, dating from 1953 but going through hardly any changes until it's demise in 1973. It was one up from the AC Invalid Car.
