EU TV in UK - will it work?
Discussion
How do I check if my EU bought TV (Greece) will work in UK. I am referring to LED/Plasma TVs.
I brought an 'old fashioned' TV with a tube to Greece from UK and it needed some crystal changing but wondering if this applies to the new LED/Plamsa equipment?
If it is a hassle/costly/not guarantee to work then perhaps I am better off selling there in Greece and buying new ones in UK...

Check in the setup menu, channel installation, can you select the UK as an option for tuning? If so you should be ok.
If no then you may not be able to tune to the UK TV channels correctly, they will not be in the correct sequence/channel listings, missing channels etc.
Does the TV have a DVB digital/freeview tuner? If only analogue then there will not be any TV to tune after April next year.

Thanks - will do that - 1 of them has a digital tuner built in but the other 2 do not but surely they can just be plugged into a freeview tuning box?If no then you may not be able to tune to the UK TV channels correctly, they will not be in the correct sequence/channel listings, missing channels etc.

That is what they have here in Greece anyway for all the TVs that do not have it built in.

I can confirm that both CRT and plasma TV's are fine in both Italy and the UK (changed the plugs on both)
Thanks. I wish the EU would be useful on things like this and make standards for electrical goods as it different for Greece-UK.Just to confirm for anyone else who reads this that for Greece the CRT TV bought in UK needed a sound crystal changing.
Do not know about newer TV's (yet!)
For analogue TV broadcasts, countries use different frequencies for the picture and audio carriers so you may well be able to tune to a channel and have pictures, but no sound.
Although Europe manly uses the PAL colour system they have different identifiers, eg PAL-I, PAL-K, PAL-BG etc to identify the channel groups.
Digital is slightly different and the main problem you find is channels out of order or missing, you can try this on your UK TV, go to installations/setup and switch your country to say Greece, then do a retune and see what happens.
