My tenth Jaguar: This time it's an E-type
Discussion
My tenth Jaguar, but my first E-type. I picked this up last Thursday, and have been driving it so much ever since. I'm the fourth owner of it, and it had a documented 80,000 miles (now 81,000 miles since I've put on that much in the five days I've had it). It is British Racing Green with Biscuit leather. Restored about 9 years ago with new paint, new seating surfaces, new headliner, new carpets, and everything seems to be holding up very well. It has more recent updates too such as all new braking system including rotors, calipers and pads on the rear diff, all new suspension/shocks. Overall it's a very nice older restoration. The previous owner used it as a daily driver, so fitted electronic ignition, and new radiator. It doesn't have air conditioning fitted. The previous owner used it in any sort of weather, including snow, but the car has absolutely no rust, and all of it is steel not filler. The car does not have a radio, and the speaker grills are dummies. I intend to keep it this way.
There are a few things I plan to tend to on the car:
Firstly to touch up all the stone chips. I have been working on it a little at a time - painting on the thinnest possible layer, and giving each chip or scratch area about six or seven layers with several hours drying time in between. Then I take 2000 grit sandpaper and wet sand it, and then polish it with 4000grit. Then follow this by waxing.
Secondly, I want to rechrome the bumpers and wire wheels.
Thirdly, I want to tune the carbs, or get rid of them in favour of a triple SU setup.
The car does have a few non authentic items, but a smaller diameter steering wheel is helpful in providing more legroom!

please dont rechrome the wire wheels - the spokes become embrittled by the plating process
the wheels would originally be painted silver (as would the rims)
chrome spoked wheels are for posers........
good luck with your car
Firstly: I disagree, and I am insulted that you would try to impose your tastes on me. the wheels would originally be painted silver (as would the rims)

Taste is a very individual thing and your comment disregards my freedom of choice.
Secondly: Painted (stove aluminium) wire wheels which are standard equipment were not the only original specification available. The 1969 brochure lists chromed plated wire wheels as an option available by special order. In addition, pressed steel wheels were available as an option as well.
My E-type is fitted with the special order chrome plated wire wheels, chrome hubs and rims, and I intend to retain this feature of the car.

This is the second overly sensitive poster in readers cars in recent weeks.Taste is a very individual thing and your comment disregards my freedom of choice.
What is it with the older generation these days, they can't grasp the concept of a discussion on a forum where someone might have a different opinion.

Very nice, apart from (IMO) the awful front grille/bull bar looking thing.
Remove, and the front end will be as jaguar intended and look much, much nicer.
Again, all in my opinion.
I think that's the US spec front - it may be a US car.Remove, and the front end will be as jaguar intended and look much, much nicer.
Again, all in my opinion.
That's a very, very nice car OP, it looks fantastic.
