Renault World Series 2011, some advice please

I've had tickets for this the past 2 years but when the day came have never actually been bothered to go! However this year I'm making the effort but planning on taking the little'un with us (6 months old), are we mad?? It's already apparent that he's not too keen on loud noises (god help him when I take him to his first F1 race!) so were planning on some ear defenders but what about parking etc, is it a long walk into the circuit?
Also, I believe the grandstands are free entry, where's the best place to watch the races?

At the Classic meeting a few weeks ago i had to park in the car park on the 'wrong side' of the dual carriageway. The way into the circuit from this car park is over a bridge which is ok if you dont have children.
Carrying a pushchair up the bridge & down the over side is not something you want to do.
If you get there early enough you should be able to park in the car park behind the International Straight (i think that is the stupid name it has been given) which is in front on the new Silverstone Wing.
From there it is a 10 minute walk to the centre of the circuit where all the displays will be. The old pits complex will probably house some of the race cars although most of the cars will be in the new garages under the Wing.
That is quite a trek hence at the Classic meeting the circuit laid on free double decker London Routemaster buses to take people ound to the new pits complex.
The circuit is now superb although the siting of the new pits complex is, i think, in the wrong place as it is too far out towards the back of the circuit.
The World Series is excellent so you should enjoy it although i'm not sure about taking a 6 month old. My little person was 18 months before he attended his first race meeting at Silverstone.
He loves racing & drags me to Silverstone whenever he can.

All the cars will run from the new pit complex even though some will be based in the old complex (if that makes sense). If you're there with a 6 month old then deffo cover he/her ears. Parking will only be on the outside of the circuit and perhaps go on Saturday as it's slightly quieter (crowdwise) and you'll miss nothing that isn't out on Sunday (other than the F Renault 2.0 UK race)

It is well worth the trip. Whilst the race drivers are not household names & the racing is not 'top notch' it is an excellent way to spend a weekend.
Apart from the fact that it is free (always a bonus) the more that the series is supported the longer, hopefully, Renault will continue to run the series.
Highlights should be the Renault 3.5 race & the F1 track display.
Last year was awesome - as was Jean Ragnotti in his Renault 5 Turbo 2. To see him spin the car through a full 360 whilst running in a straight line was incredible.
The static displays are also excellent with many old F1 cars on display alongside rally cars &, hopefully, the Le Mans cars as well.
Fun fair for the kids, race simulators, wheel changing competitions for the adults (i tried it last year & i was crap!!!) so plenty to keep you amused.
If you can find somewhere local to stay do so & do both days of the event.

Some top notch racing on offer if you ask me, remember Seb Vettel was pulled from here to go F1 mid season as was Robert Kubica a few years back and yes although Daniel Ricciardo is driving F1 for HRT, he is still a top notch driver doing both series. More exciting than Gp 2 on most occasions.Never been to one of these, but be warned. There will be a lot of "Joe Public" spectators who (because its free) have never been anywhere near a Race Circuit in their lives and are not aware of the rules and "etiquette" regarding viewing areas and prohibited areas. I believe, from past events this has meant the crowd control and traffic handling aspects have to be fairly rigourous.
The hope is that this type of event will entice a small percentage of people who attend to come back for another look at some other type of racing.

I wouldn't wish to piss on anyone's chips but the WSR meetings at Donington were beyond dreadful. Full of horrific people with no manners, respect or idea how to behave at a race circuit. I saw Marc Gene clearing up at Donington in Dallara-Nissan (as it was before it became FR3.5) and wanted to support the series. I wouldn't attend again if you paid me. Exactly the same when Audi and Peugeot gave away free tickets to the Silverstone 1,000kms a few years back. It's asking for trouble.
It's pricey but dip your hand in your pocket and splash out for a day at Goodwood Revival the same weekend instead. By far the finest racing spectacle I've ever experienced and even if it was £500 a day it would be better value than a free day at Silverstone.

By far the finest racing spectacle I've ever experienced and even if it was £500 a day it would be better value than a free day at Silverstone.

Donington is ---- well ---- Donington
Last years event was well organised with none of the crap experienced at Donington in years gone by.
I dont want to 'diss' Donington however it will always be the same there.
Silverstone have got things sussed & whilst there will be a number of cretins out for a free day most of the spectators will be there for the racing, the cars & the enjoyment.
What i meant by no top notch was the racing itself - apart from Formula 3.5 it is Formula Renault. Megane Trophy etc which is not well known racing IMO.
I am fully aware that Vettell was racing in the series however, sadly, most of the drivers dont get very far these days unless they have that rare talent & get spotted early.
The series is, in my opinion, extremely good now & i wouldnt let a crap experience at Donignton cloud my judgement. I too attended the chaotic attempts at Donington however it didnt put me off.
Just as getting stuck for 7 hours in a muddy Silverstone field in April many years agao didnt put me off going back to Silverstone.
It is just one of those things that happens sometimes.

WSR is a great series, with 8 of the current F1 grid progressing from it in recent years. It's super competitive at the front.
There's enough room at Silverstone to make sure your day isn't ruined by billies.
My apologies over confusion concerning dates, it has traditionally been held over Goodwood Revival weekend. This way you get to do both! I'll be at Oulton Park this weekend sadly so will have to miss WSR. I'm pleased to hear Silverstone has improved things. The second free Donington event in particular was horrendous - having queued for an hour to get in I felt minded to head straight back home again. I'm sure you chaps will have a wonderful time and I'm sorry if I was being negative but there are so many utterly fantastic race meetings in this country and that is probably the worst I've ever been to. Oh and for clarity, yes Dallara Nissan was part of the support billing for ISRS so was not free, but I attended the WSR race day on the back of enjoying the Dallara Nissan cars so much.

He won't have a clue whats going on! It's a day out for us more than anything, we're very much of the opinion that life doesnt stop because you have a baby in tow. Main concern for him really is the noise, we took him to Southport airshow a few weeks back and lets just say the Tornado's were not well received. Apart from the F1 cars is there anything else out on track that is seriously loud?
Were planning on getting there for around 9am on Sunday so hopefully the car parks wont be too full.
Best places to watch the races then bearing in mind a push chair in tow, what do you recommend?? Not particuarly bothered about grandstands, a nice grassy bank would be perfectly sufficient!
