hi we are wanting to extend the patio and path in the back garden to make better use of it only issue is its raised above the ground to make planners happy about flood protection etc the house is a new build we have been in about 8 weeks or so now

there are about 4 courses of bricks above the ground

what would be the best way to extend the patio at the same level on both sides looking at maybe another 4 flag wide either side and maybe another flag deep on the path maybe at a lower level to lessen the drop onto the ground ?

i know i havent described it very well and there isnt any pics but will get some later

here are some pics
the slabs are 45 x 45 cm the bricks are 21x6
looking at it again i think extending the patio another 2 rows each side so 16 slabs and the path maybe an extra row so another 11 slabs there can anyone tell me what slabs and bricks they are ?

They look like blue engineering bricks and the slabs are Marshalls Textured Utility Paving slabs.

Just build out as required, make sure the footings for the retaining wall are about 400mm deep.

Why not extend with some decking, would break it up a bit, just sink some 4x4 posts in the ground with postcrete, make a simple frame using 6x2's, then some decking on top, posts and rails if you fancy them, simples.

Yes the new retaining wall would need a footing otherwise it will sink into the earth...
You wont need to tie the walls together. You may however tie them where they butt together
