This is a certificate for a government bond ("Gilt") originally issued in 1980, which paid 2 coupons of 6.5% of the nominal holding and which redeemed at par (100) on 14th July 2000.

Cheers sidicks, if I still have the certificate, does that mean it was no redeeemed? I'm loathe to bin it, in case it still has any value!

Big Greek's!!!! Back in the day there were two Gilt's maturing in 2000...which were called Baby and Big Greek's (Grecian 2000) respectively. These being Big Greek's because of the big coupon.....

And yes....everyone that traded these things back then was totally immature. It's a lot quicker than saying the full name though....

In answer to your question....

Quite possibly, are they registered or bearer bonds ? If the latter they definitely won't have paid the money back unless someone declared them lost etc. Contact the DMO to find out http://www.dmo.gov.uk/

Cheers Beardy, they are registered, but I'll do some digging anyway!
